Vision of India is the first NGO in India to take up a project to promote sports excellence at the international level. It spearheaded an initiative to sign a tripartite agreement between Sports Authority of India (SAI), a government agency, and the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) of North America (California). The vision behind the programme was to help the SAI to scout and work in collaboration with VOI to bring rural youth to the best of sports facilities available in the country.
Likewise VOI, along with its US partner FIA, helps in sponsoring the best athletes selected by the Government to be trained in the US or countries providing best facilities. Based on this MoU, the SAI selected 12 athletes in the first project (August 1994) who were sent to the US at facilities in the universities of Stanford and Berkeley and the best sports facilities where US athletes are trained.
Due to this training along with the technology provided and nutrition advice, all the young athletes, in a short period of time, broke their own records.
